The internet describes it as: “phenomena that appear to contradict physical laws and suggest the possibility of causation by mental processes.” or “phenomena lying outside the sphere of physical science or knowledge.”
So, in layman’s terms, psychic phenomena are abilities and/or practises that do not comply with known laws of physics and deal with the metaphysical.
*Metaphysics is “a branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.”
✧ Automatic Writing:
Automatic Writing – also know as “psychography” – is, quite simply, the ability to write without conscious thought. This means that the writings done during an episode or session of Automatic Writing come from a spiritual source. Oftentimes, the writings will not make a lot of sense – Automatic Writing is a form of divination and thus, the writing must be be interpreted by the practitioner if the meaning is not immediately clear. // [How to Practise Automatic Writing]
✧ Clairaudience:
Clairaudience (clear hearing) is the ability to hear things that are not of this plane. For example, you may be able to hear the voices of spirits and entities that do not exist within the physical human world, or hear the voices of those who have passed. It is said that one can grow and develop this psychic ability over time with practise.
✧ Claircognizance:
Claircognizance (clear knowing) is best described as the ability to know something intrinsically. This means that you have knowledge of something, someone or a subject that you were not taught and cannot provide a background to. This is often referred to as a higher form of intuition and if you are claircognizant, you know that what you know is true beyond doubt.
✧ Clairgustance:
This psychic phenomena, is probably one of the stranger ones. Literally meaning “clear taste”, clairgustance is the ability to taste something without putting it in your mouth. This form of extra-sensory perception (ESP) is uncommon and those who possess this ability say that they can taste the essence of something from an astral or spiritual plane.
✧ Clairolfaction:
This is a form of ESP that enables the person with this talent to receive information by means of – for lack of a better description – psychic smelling. Yes, you did read that correctly. Much like the aforementioned Clairgustance, Clairolfaction is the ability to smell something – or as practitioners may say the essence of something – without a physical source for the stench to emanate from.
Clairolfaction is also known as “clairscent”.
✧ Clairsentience:
Clairsentience (meaning “clear feeling”), is the ability to acquire knowledge by touch. The gifted individual may gain knowledge of emotion, memory, location and more by touching a person or an object that belongs/belonged to a person. ✧ Mediumship & Channelling:
There are different types of mediumship and channelling (such as Ouija), but the best way to cover all the types with one small explanation, is to say that mediumship is the practise of communing with the deceased.
✧ Precognition & Premonition:
Precognition and premonition simply means that the person with this gift is able to have foreknowledge of an event/events. A common form of gaining this knowledge, is through clairvoyance and prophetic vision.
✧ Psychometry:
Psychometry is the ability to gain knowledge of a person – whether that is their location, personal knowledge, or otherwise – through contact with an inanimate object that is associated with them. ✧ Second Sight:
Often, this term is used interchangeably with “clairvoyance” as it means that the person with this gift is able to predict and perceive future events before they occur through visual means. These visions are often symbolic in nature.

Telepathy is the ability to communicate with another person through extra-sensory means – by this, we mean that the communication is done by means outside the known senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing).
Back in the 1850’s before Ouija boards had been invented if
you wanted to speak to the spirits or obtain a reading. Our ancestors reached for their
planchette.
The Planchette consisted of a small board on which paper was
fastened and a separate paddle on casters with a pen. The
people placed their hands on the paddle and started “Auto Writing”, writing
without thought. The plan was that the spirits would guide the hands to deliver
a message. Although most of what was produced was rubbish, the medium would review
their scribbles and determine the messages.
With the invention of the Ball point pen, anyone can now try
this method of divination. If you have
not had any luck with other methods why not give auto writing a go, you might
discover a hidden talent.
You can make a planchette from almost anything so long as it
hold the pen and moves to allow writing. If you are lucky you might even be able to locate an original one in the back of the attic.
here is my midsummer/summer solstice/litha/etc spread! i recommend for crystal use incorporating rose quartz, citrine, moonstone, carnelian, garnet, tigers eye, or amber into ur practices on this beautiful day. of course, any crystals u can get your hands on will be beneficial if thats what you choose to do, but a little bit of rose quartz did no one any harm 😉
for candles/incense, i keep my black candles for the later period of the year when im screaming around my house n pretending to not b terrified of LIFE 🙂 right now, i bring in red (love n passion, baby!), oranges (bring in those new beginnings which are always appearing in front of u this time of yr!), and yellows (communication n GOOD HEALTH SO SAY GOODBYE TO UR ALLERGIES – jks, sadly). white is always good – really just the classic warm colours that can be used for either chakra channeling, meditation, spell work, etc. in the incense-sphere, lavender and chamomile are GREAT for this time of year. I also rec dragons blood for any sexy charms/spells/etc u might be doing.

An Explanation:Automatic Writing is when you let an spirit/entity take a hold of your hand and move it to write, scribble, draw and communicate. It’s a (usually) safe way to communicate with spirits, as long as you stay calm and don’t let fear take over.
A Fair Warning:
Fear is food for spirits. Feed them, and they’ll get stronger. Stay serene. Automatic writing takes practice and might not work on the first try.
How to:
If you want to be very safe, surround yourself with a circle of salt.
A lot of people prefer to do automatic writing in the nude, however, you do whatever makes you comfortable.
Spirits like to come out at night, so you might be more successful then. Now, to the actual writing.
Light a candle (preferably new and black for protection, but white’ll do) near where you’ll be sitting. Sit comfortably. Some people prefer to do so half laying back. Take your pen in whichever hand you want (maybe best in the hand you’re not predominant in? Since you body will have less control over the writing in that case.). Place it on the blank page. Close your eyes. Enter a meditative state. Calm your mind. Let go of all thoughts and just breathe. Relax your arm entirely so that you have no muscular control over it. If your hand starts writing, let it do so. Don’t open your eyes. Don’t try and see what they wrote, what they drew, anything. Eyes closed, relax. If you feel yourself starting to take control of your hand, let go of the pen and wait until you’ve relinquished all hold on the arm that’s writing. Don’t try and understand, interpret or control. Let it flow. Once you feel that it is over, open your eyes, put the pen away, thank the spirit, say goodbye, turn the candle off, throw it away and then, you may look at what was written. By candle light, no danger should come. If you feel unsafe or that something “evil” or “bad” has taken a hold of your arm (and it frightens you), just request help from beings of light to protect you, or that your guides come and help you. If you want to communicate with a particular person, you may try by having an image of them or an object that belonged to them with you, but it’s a bit like chatroulette, you could get anyone from anywhere. And they might not even know how to write or speak your language, Remember that.
Bonus:
Samhain is coming up! It’s a great time to get into spirit work, channeling and such. The veil between our worlds are thinner.
